Teaching concerning these historical developments in the early Church was a necessary and required part of my early Catholic instruction in the 1950's as it should always have been since for children attending Catholic institutions. Required reliably sourced and detailed instruction on the topic of development of Catholic doctrine as you have begun to provide here would go a long way in dispelling some of the hogwash that now frequently permeates the teaching of our children and has continued to do so in ever more egregious ways for more than half a century contaminating the teaching of our Church with incomprehensibly silly propositions of faith issuing right from the top. Much thanks for this post Paul.
